Bookkeeping cost depends on how many accounts and transactions you have, whether your books need cleanup, and which services are included, such as payroll and reporting. Providers usually charge a fixed monthly fee, an hourly rate or a one-time project price. Ask what is included before comparing numbers.
1The three common pricing models
- Fixed monthly fee: a set price each month for defined work, easy to budget
- Hourly rate: you pay for time spent, which can vary month to month
- Project price: a one-time fee for a cleanup, a setup or a catch-up
Many small businesses combine them, for example a cleanup quoted as a project and then a fixed monthly plan to keep the books current.
2What changes the price
- Number of bank and credit card accounts
- Number of transactions each month
- Whether you use payment platforms like Stripe, PayPal or Square
- Whether payroll or contractor payments are included
- The level of reporting and review you need
- The condition of your books when you start
A business with one account and a handful of transactions should not pay the same as one with five accounts and thousands of sales. Be wary of a price that does not ask about either.
3How our plans work
At Profit Path Solution, monthly bookkeeping is offered in three fixed plans: Essential from $450 per month, Growth at $750 per month and Complete at $1,150 per month. Each plan lists the number of bank and card accounts it covers, the reports you receive and the level of support.
If your books are behind, a cleanup is quoted separately and upfront. There are no long-term contracts, and you can change or cancel your plan.
4What to ask before you hire
- Which accounts and transactions does the fee cover?
- What happens if I have more accounts or higher volume?
- Do I receive monthly reports, and will you explain them?
- Is cleanup included or extra?
- How quickly do you close each month?
- Is there a contract, and how do I cancel?
5The cost of doing it badly
Cheap bookkeeping that is wrong is expensive. Errors lead to wrong tax figures, missed deductions, late payments and decisions based on incorrect numbers. A cleanup later often costs more than steady monthly work would have.
Compare value, not only price: accuracy, reporting, reliability and how well the bookkeeper understands your business.
6How to choose a package
Start with where your books are today. If they are current, a monthly plan fits. If they are behind, plan a cleanup first. If you are not sure, a free 15-minute call is a low-pressure way to find out, and we will tell you which level of support makes sense.
